The God Who Stays (Monday Morning Faith)

Sometimes we make the Christian life harder than it needs to be.

We want to know what God is doing five years from now. We want to understand why He allowed something to happen. We want to know how He is going to provide. We want to know which decision will work out. We want to know what comes next. But Exodus 25 gives us something we desperately need to remember: We may not know everything God is doing, but we can know that God is with us.

God had rescued Israel from Egypt. He had brought them through the Red Sea. He had provided manna in the wilderness. He had given them His covenant. And now He tells them to build a tabernacle. Why? Because God wanted His people to know that He wasn't going to rescue them and then leave them alone. He was going to dwell with them. That's why the furniture matters.

The Ark reminded Israel, “God is here.”
The Table reminded them, “God provides.”
The Lampstand reminded them, “God gives light for the way.”

The furniture wasn't the point. The Presence was the point.

There is a beautiful detail here that lifelong students of Scripture may appreciate. The Hebrew word used for the “atonement cover” of the Ark is kapporet. It comes from the same Hebrew root associated with making atonement or covering sin. This was the place where God said He would meet with Moses. In other words, God's presence was not disconnected from His grace. The holy God made a way for sinful people to live in relationship with Him. The God who wanted to dwell with His people also provided the way for them to approach Him. And that story ultimately leads us to Jesus.

Matthew says that Jesus would be called Immanuel, which means “God is with us.”

God didn't simply send a message. He came near. He didn't simply give us instructions from heaven. He came to us in Jesus. And He doesn't simply forgive us and send us on our way. He gives us His Spirit to dwell within us. That means God's presence isn't just something we talk about at church. It changes how we live Monday through Saturday.

When you sit down at the breakfast table this week, remember: God provides.
When you face a decision you don't understand, remember: God gives light for the next step.
When you're anxious about your family, your finances, your health, your work, or your future, remember: God is here.

You may not know what tomorrow's table will hold. You may not know what the next step will look like. You may not understand what God is doing.
But you don't have to know everything about tomorrow to trust the One who is already there.

You know who is with you.

And perhaps that's the lesson God wants to form in us. We spend so much of our lives trying to get somewhere. A better job. A better house. A better marriage. A better retirement. A better future. But God isn't simply trying to get us somewhere. He's forming us into someone. Someone who trusts Him. Someone who remembers His provision. Someone who walks in His light. Someone who lives with an awareness of His presence. Because salvation isn't the end of the story. Salvation is where formation begins. And the God who saves us is the God who shapes us. And the God who shapes us is the God who stays with us. So whatever you face this week, don't begin with the question, “How am I going to figure this out?”

Begin with a better question:

“What would it look like for me to remember that God is with me?”

Because He is. He was with Israel. He came near to us in Jesus. And He is with His people today.
God doesn't just save us and shape us—He dwells with us.

Prayer:

Father, thank You that You are with me. Help me remember Your presence when I am afraid, Your provision when I am anxious, and Your light when I don't know which way to go. Teach me to trust You instead of trying to control everything myself. Shape my life around the reality that You are here. Thank You for coming near to me in Jesus. Help me walk with You today. In Jesus’ Name I Pray, Amen.
