Thursday - Love that Gets Low
Walking with Jesus to the Cross — Day 5
It’s the night before everything changes. Jesus gathers His closest friends for a meal. It’s intimate. Personal. Sacred. And in the middle of it, He does something shocking. He gets down and washes their feet. Including Judas.
Then He says, “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” (John 13:15)
Later, He breaks bread and says, “This is my body given for you.” (Luke 22:19)
This is the beginning of communion—a reminder that His life would be given for ours.
And then, in the garden, we see His anguish.
“Father, if You are willing, take this cup from me… yet not my will, but Yours be done.” (Luke 22:42)
What this means for us
Thursday shows us the heart of Jesus.
He serves. He gives. He surrenders.
In a world that tells us to protect ourselves, elevate ourselves, and look out for ourselves…Jesus shows a different way.
For us in Roseburg, this might look like:
serving when it’s inconvenient
loving when it’s undeserved
choosing humility over recognition
Theologically, this is profound: Jesus is both the Host of the meal and the Sacrifice it represents.
He is giving Himself fully. And He invites us to do the same.
Prayer
Jesus, teach me to love like You—humbly, sacrificially, and fully surrendered. Amen.
